OpenStudy (albert0898):

Solve 17 < 5 - 3x < 29 I got -4 > x > -8 as my answer. Is that correct? When diving by a negative number, you change the direction of the sign.

OpenStudy (fateal):

OpenStudy (albert0898):

How would you graph it?

OpenStudy (albert0898):

@fateal

OpenStudy (fateal):

will you have to put it as x<-4 x>-8 then graph it like that...i forgot how to do it....i belive for -4 you'd make it aim to the right n the 8 to the left for 4 shade below for 8 shade below too

OpenStudy (albert0898):

Oh I got it! Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-4 > x > -8 is correct. I like to write it with less than signs (and that's how I usually see it anyway) so I'm going to flip the order so that it's -8 < x < -4. Do you need to graph it on a number line or on a coordinate plane?

OpenStudy (fateal):

u have to check ur book tho...just to make sure about it.... cus it was like 3 years since i took math '^^ about the shading part js

OpenStudy (albert0898):

It is right @fateal I just totally forgot about that part.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On a number line, it would be an open circle at the points x = -4 and x = -8, and you'd shade between them. On a coordinate plane, it would be shaded between the lines x = -4 and x = -8, which are both vertical, which means it's the same graph as on a number line, but the points and shading are extended vertically in both directions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And the lines would be dashed, too, because it has "less than" (or "greater than") signs, rather than "less than or equal to" (or "greater than or equal to")

OpenStudy (fateal):

lel.... n its on a number line like what he mentioned....then as u see the < and > sign then just make the arrow go that way too the circle will have to be open or shaded....i really forgot it...just check ur book x3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, you only go in opposite directions if it looks like " -8 > x, or -4 < x"

OpenStudy (fateal):

will i already told him to check his book :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since you can write it as " -8 < x, and x < -4 ", or " -8 < x < -4 ", you just shade between

OpenStudy (anonymous):

checking the book is fine and all, but I think it's better to think about the answer and what it means before you check if you're right :)

OpenStudy (fateal):

i gave him the baby steps.... i dont want to just give him the whole answer you know...thats against the rules....i want him to think about how to do it too ^^ in arabic we say: teach me how to fish, n dont give me a fish everyday...it means light up the way for me so i'll know how to walk by myself x3
