describe speed and direction?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Speed is the distance that an object travels in a given amount of time. For example: 12 miles per hour (12 mph) or 3 meters per second (3 m/s). Direction is the course along with the object travels. It might be given in positive or negative movement, degrees, traditional direction (N, S, E, W), rads or some other way. Combine the two and you have velocity.
