OpenStudy (butterflyhope):

Compare by using less than, greater than, or equal; 17.35 x 10 to the exponent of 2 (or 10^2) and 1,735 x 10 to the exponent of -2 (or 10^-2).

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

17.35 x 10^2 = 1735 because you move the decimal point 2 spots to the right (notice the +2 in the exponent over 10)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

1,735 x 10^-2 = 17.35 for similar reasons, you move the decimal point (which is initially after the 5 in 1735) to the left 2 spots. You move left this time because the exponent is negative

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

to summarize 17.35 x 10^2 = 1735 1,735 x 10^-2 = 17.35

OpenStudy (butterflyhope):

Thx :)
