each face will have 8 by 8 little cubes or 64 squares. the ones we are concerned with are the ones that are not on the edge with another face. this means there are 8+7+7+8=30 cubes that are touching another face. This means that 34 cubes are in the middle. there are 6 faces of a cube so 34*6=204 little cubes that have only one face painted.
