@jim_thompson5910 could you help me one more please?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what do you have so far?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
nothing
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think i have to first get rid of the parenthesis right?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you have to distribute, yes

so then my equation would like this 5 - x + 5 > -2x + 4 and then i do 5 + 5 which is 10 so 10 - x > -2x + 4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
am i going in the right direction?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
5 − (x + 5) > −2(x + 4)
5 − x - 5 > −2x - 8
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you forgot to distribute fully
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what's next?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
notice we have 5 and a -5 on the left side
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
they combine to 0
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok so it is left with x
OpenStudy (anonymous):

-x on the left side
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
-x > -2x - 8
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
then what?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
add 2x

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
correct
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
what do you end up with?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and the answer would be x > -8
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
add 2x to both sides to be more specific
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
that's the correct final answer
