Okay, I'm getting pretty tired...
OS is basically tearing itself down. The OS experience has pretty much turned to poo. No smartscores, faulty notifications, mess ups in chat, and inaccurate statuses. I'm kind of tired of being a noob :T Someone must be playing around with the script and I hope it's the OS team.
If the home page even manages to load all of the online users, it still refuses to load all of the photos. It almost never loads medals, and somehow gives back the wrong status on users. Please tell me this is being worked on..
Seems to work fine for me now.
As dar as the loading SS goes, not sure about the others, but I agree, the OS experience isn't as it used to be.
I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the recent troll infestation :T
Could be the case, but I quit paying attention to it :P, because the only answer you'll get for this is..."they're working on it" meaning no one really cares at HQ haha.
The dev people were sent an email on Friday, but don't work the weekend. One got the message tonight and is going to do the reboot, but wants to do some diagnostics first, try and capture where the error is happening. Then they hopefully find the cause and do a long term fix.
What I've experienced... OpenStudy is pretty fun to me I've always been bored studying alone and OpenStudy is a gr8 learning site.
The site is working now, but when I got to the main page, it looked like this. http://prntscr.com/4plfq1 It's been like that for 2 days now. >:|
Another thing, when I answer or ask an question and click post, what I said is still in the box http://prntscr.com/4plgav it freezes and when I refresh http://prntscr.com/4plgxd It's like that, does this have anything to do with the new "Smartcents" because ever since this was added on to the site, it's been messing up frequently.
@Jesstho.-. I don't think that the smart cents are directly affecting this, though I do feel like they've got their priorities in the wrong place. They're focusing on the smartcents, titles, and smartscores, rather than solving the problems that are actually interfering with the user's understanding (ie, server issues, low user capacity, and lag).
Jesse, OpenStudy pays for a server cluster. With thousands of concurrent users and a multi-terabyte database, it is not exactly a small site on that cluster. Increasing user capacity can be done a few ways: increase the efficiency of the database and/or server side scripts, distribute over more servers, remove features that are resource intensive, and remove buggy code. The new development team has been working on some of those. The most powerful method of supporting more users and retaining features is more servers. However, more servers means more money. That means more subscribers. That means giving people more reasons to subscribe. The new development team also needed to learn the existing code base to be able to modify it. That is a large part of where SmartCents came in. They were doing emergency updates at the start. Then they did the iPhone app to learn the user interaction code better. Then they did the SmartCents feature to learn the back end code better. Both times they added things that were parallel to the existing structure, and yes, there were some issues with these. For example, the iPhine app created a security hole they have been working on closing. The system does have some legacy issues to deal with. The code they are working on was not developed by a close knot, professional team. So it takes a bit more to really understand it. It is also built atop a database that is a bit different, but I feel that the MongoDB choice was made due to the forgiving nature of the data store. (If not all "rows" of a "table" have the same "columns" in Mongo, it does not care.) This allows for development flexibility. But it also means there are not as many people that understand proper optimization of the database. So what OpenStudy really needs is more subscribers or things people are willing to pay for so that they can support both more development and a larger cluster.
Thank you for the explanation, Eric :). Though I already subscribe, I agree that there could be a few more people to show their love for Openstudy with a few dollars.
id so subscribe to this web ^^ but i still dont have me CC 'o.e
That font made me lol. Looks like someone screwed up... Not happening on my end, though Smart Scores are gone once again.
Jes, that looks like a failed load.
Oh o-o
Part of the page loaded, but not all. It causes some odd formatting.
well dat Owl be back keeps comming on my screen again and again repeteadly
@e.mccormick, a long term fix? You mean there won't be any more hotfixes where the error happens again in just a few months? :O
@poopsiedoodle That is what I am hopeful for.
