How do I right -3 5/8 in rational form a/b

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

basically you just want to turn your mixed number into an improper fraction. Do you know how to do that ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

- 3 5/8....disregard the negative sign for a moment. 3 5/8.....take your whole number (3) and multiply it by your denominator (8), giving us 24....then add that to your numerator (5), giving us 29...then just put that over your original denominator (8), giving us 29/8...now put your negative sign back...giving you - 29/8
