What is the slope of the line that passes through the points (1, 1) and (–1, –5)?

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

Do you perhaps remember the formula for the slope of a line?

OpenStudy (shinalcantara):

\[m=\frac{ y2-y1 }{ x2-x1 }\] m is the slope (x1,y1),(x2,y2) are the points of the line.. now substitute the values

OpenStudy (jojo4eva):

right so you would do -5-1/-1-1 so you get -6/-2 the negatives cancel out and your slope equals 3

OpenStudy (jojo4eva):

so m=3
