QUESTION 1 The red arrow (left) shows the water level BEFORE a small rock is added. The blue arrow (right) shows the water level AFTER the small rock is added. What is the volume of the rock?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You just found the volume of the rock by comparing water levels in a graduated cylinder. What is the name given to this method of determining volume? analysis displacement synthesis volumetrics

OpenStudy (anonymous):

QUESTION 3 In Question #1, you found the volume of the rock. If I tell you that the mass of the rock is 25 grams, you should be able to calculate its density. What is the density of the rock? 55 g/mL 0.83 g/mL 1.2 g/mL 750 g/mL

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So....which is denser, water or vegetable oil? Water Vegetable oil These liquids have equivalent densities Neither of these liquids has density

QUESTION 5 An archaeologist is excited to unearth some coins at an excavation site and wants to determine if they are pure gold. She finds that their volume is 7.8 cm3 and their mass is 165.5 grams. What is the density of the coins?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Q 5 20.3 g/cm3 0.047 g/cm3 19.3 g/cm3 21.2 g/cm3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The archaeologist looks on the Internet and finds that the density of pure gold is 19.3 g/cm3. Are the coins pure gold? Yes No This cannot be determined She would need additional information to know for sure

QUESTION 7 It's bath-time, and you've got science on the brain. You toss a toy (density of 2.0 g/cm3) into your tub of water (density of 1.0 g/cm3). Does the toy float or sink? First the toy will sink and then it will float This cannot be determined Sink Float

OpenStudy (anonymous):

QUESTION 8 Okay. Let's take the same toy (density 2.0 g/cm3) and put it into a bathtub filled with a liquid whose density is 2.5 g/cm3. Will the toy float or sink? Sink Float This cannot be determined First the toy will float and then it will sink

please help!

OpenStudy (peterg2001):

You just found the volume of the rock by comparing water levels in a graduated cylinder. What is the name given to this method of determining volume? displacement - invented by Archimedes. Completely fill a large volume of something with water. Have a spout to channel all excess water. Place a graduated cylinder under the spout. Place irregular object in the large volume filled with water. The volume of the irregular object will displace an equivalent volume of water into the graduated cylinder. The measured volume in the cylinder is the volume of the irregular object.
