Tom receives allowance every week. He spends three-fourths of his allowance on food. Last week, Tom spent nine dollars on food. What is Tom’s weekly allowance? Write the verbal model, define the variable, write the equation and find the solution. Show your work.

lets say that x is Tom's allowance, and it says that he spends 3/4 of his allowance (x) on food, therfore x*(3/4). But we also that 3/4 of what he spent is $9. therefore: x*(3/4)=9 if you solve for x by dividing 9 by (3/4) you get x=12
