I got 7x then do I add the positive 7 to what would be the negative three which would then give me my answer? dealing with polynomials

3+4 = 7, thus 7x is part of the answer for the 'x' portion. 7-3 = 4, thus 4 is part of the answer for the constant portion. Put it all together and you are done.
