Which of the following situations can be modeled by a discrete random variable? Choose ALL that apply. The number of shots made during a basketball game. The temperature in your city on August 1. The height of a randomly-selected student. The number of sunny days in May.

1/ and 4/

I think 1 and four.

OpenStudy (debbieg):

"Discrete random variable" means, basically, something that can be "counted" in whole numbers. Measurements, like temperature, height, elapsed time, etc, can't be "counted" and are measured on continuous scales (limited only by the precision of the measuring instrument), so they are not "discrete".
