its something like that, but also 3 outcomes, 4 outcomes ..... anything more than 1 outcome (answer) to each x (the question)

I explain it to my classes as:

"A relation is a function if it is true that, IF YOU KNOW x, YOU KNOW y." E.g., once you know what x is, there is no ambiguity in determining what y is.
