simplify 9 1/2

OpenStudy (debbieg):

Are you doing improper fractions? (Trying to get at what they want here by "simplify".)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator to the product. \[9\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }= (9\times2)+1\] \[18+1=\frac{ 19 }{ 2 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can check to see if it is correct by dividing the denominator(2) into the numerator. 19/2=9.5=\[9\frac{ 1 }{ 2 }\]
