Group the x terms together and complete the square. Group the y terms together and complete the square. Put it in the form: (x - h)^2 + (y - k)^2 = r^2 where (h, k) will be the center and r will be the radius.

x^2 − 4x + y^2 + 8y = −4 Group x terms together and the y terms together and complete the square for each group: (x^2 - 4x) + (y^2 + 8y) = -4 complete the square for x^2 - 4x complete the square for y^2 - 8y
