!!!! Please help I do not know how to start or work this out. Suppose a line goes through the point (3,-7) and is parallel to the line passing through the points (-1,8) and (1,2). Write the equation of the line. Determine the intercepts of the line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the slope of the line passing through your two points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got -3 but im not sure

OpenStudy (knowledge):

That is right. The slope of the line through (-1, 8) and (1,2) is -3. Now that you know that is true and that the lines are parallel, you can plug it into this like this. \[y=mx+b\]

OpenStudy (knowledge):

Plug in what you know. You know a point of the line you are trying to find. You know the slope. m is slope and you know x and y. Therefore, you can plug those in and then solve for b. Once you have b you have the y intercept.
