Two spherical-shell capacitors have inner radii a and outer radii b. the space between the plates in c1 is filled with air, and the space is filled with a dielectric with dielectric constant k for c2. They are connected to a battery of voltage e. Calculate the charge that appears on the inner plate of c1 and on the outer plate of c2 when it is fully charged.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are the capacitors connected to the battery in parallel or in series ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In series.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The inner plates are connected and the outer plates are connected.

I can get the capacitance of the whole circuit, but am stuck as to where to go from there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't understand how the circuit is connected up, without a sketch. If capacitors are connected in series each one has the same charge transfer. You just need to know the capacitance of a spherical capacitor.

Yeah, I realized I was making it harder than it needed to be. They were in series, and once I figured out I was using the wrong equation it was easy. Thanks for taking the time to help.
