the sum of the number and 84 is greater than the product of -3 and the same number

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

x = the number (x + 84) > -3x --- subtract 84 from both sides x > -3x - 84 --- add 3x to both sides x + 3x > -84 --- combine like terms 4x > -84 --- divide both sides by 4 x > -84/4 x > - 21 The number (x) could be any number greater then -21...such as -20, -19, -18, and so on.. check.. lets make the number be -20 the sum of a number and 84... -20 + 84 = 64 is greater ... > then the product of -3 and the same number... -3(-20) = 60 so, 64 > 60....this is correct. so like I said before, your answer is any number greater then -21
