when you add you're moving to the right by whatever you're adding. to the left when you're subtracting. multiplication is pretty much adding over and over again. e.g. 2*4 = 2+2+2+2. division can be a little more complicated to talk. with division youre pretty much taking the entire length of the number (dividend) and cutting it up into parts specified by the divisor. for example 10 divided by 2, youre taking 10 and cutting it up into two parts so you get 5.
