4,503,000,000 km in scientific notation

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

What have you against moving the decimal? 4,503,000,000 450,300,000E1 45,030,000E2 4,503,000E3 450,300E4 45,030E5 4,503E6 450.3E7 45.03E8 4.503E9 Note: E9 is the same as *10^9, for example.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

To change things to scientific notation, the decimal goes right after the first digit. So it will now look like this. 4.503. Now count the number of 0's after the 3. THere are 6 of them. So now in scientific notation, it will look like this. 4.503^6

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

...except that there are 9. You also need to watch out for USAmericans and other-than-USAmericans. Make sure you know what comma and period mean in an expression.

OpenStudy (k_lynn):

then if @tkhunny is correct you need to count the digits after the decimal. It should look like >>> 4.503^9 or something to that extent. Correct me if I'm wrong
