Solve for x. |x| - 4 = 9 (Points : 1) x = 13 x = 13 or -13 x = 5 x = 5 or -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay do you understand absolute value means?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it means any value you give for x it will take the positive value for instance |-3|=3 and |3|=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so add four to both sides so you get |x|=13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but since it doesnt matter if you use a negative or positive because the absolute value gets rid of it. the answer will be both -13 and 13

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes a lot of sense, thank you! @DordtCollege
