x/5+6=36 (I don't want the awnser, I just want help Will give medal)

When you're trying to solve for the value of a variable, you need to do inverse operations. This means that you do the opposite of what is being applied to x to both sides, so that its balanced and so that at the end we have x alone on one side of the equal sign. So take a look at the number 6. It is being added to x/5. What is the opposite of addition?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Subtraction...

OpenStudy (kamibug):

Exactly :) So we r going to subtract 6 from both sides so that it cancels out on the side with the x. The equation would then be x/5 = 30. Now what we see is left is just x being divided by 5. What's the opposite of division?
