This homework is due tomorrow and it's worth a lot of points so please help me. Problem- Explain the different ways it is possible to add two rational numbers and get a negative number.

Rational numbers can be any number.
Rule #1: If you add two negative numbers, it will be negative.
Rule #2: If you subtract a positive and negative numbers (in which the negative number is larger), your answer will be negative.
