Why do you think balsa wood, rather than oak or ash, is commonly used for building models?

it depends what you`re using it for, balsa wood is less dense which makes it lighter than other woods which makes it good for like a model air plane or a model house or something. you would never use balsa wood to say build a house because of its lower density it has a lower bending and compression strength which makes it easier to snap
