To find difference (distance), you just find the difference of –131 and –87 \(-131 -(-87)\)

After you get your answer, remove negative sign if it is there.

Subtract these two numbers normally. You're trying to figure out the distance between the two points and -218 just adds the two numbers together. Once you find their difference, keep the sign of the largest number.
