Are the points (-5, -1), (1,4), and (6,-2) the vertices of a right triangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to find the slopes of the points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (perl):

you can use pythagorean theorem. i would first graph it though

OpenStudy (amistre64):

determine lengths between points and see if they pythag

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to find the slopes and then see if one slope is the opposite recriprocal of another slope

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you can work vectors, we still need lengths and a more generalized pythag .... wither way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

reciprocal*

OpenStudy (amistre64):

slope method is fair too

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if the dot product of 2 vectors is equal to 0, that tells us they are perps too
