Wanna be an Ambassador?

This post will cover what an ambassador is and does as well as give a hint how to apply if you are interested.

What we look for when picking Ambassadors are helpful, polite users that embody the rules of OpenStudy. The reason why is because Ambassadors are, well, Ambassadors!

If you look up the word, http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Ambassador , you will see references to being an official representative, a messenger, and a diplomat.

An OpenStudy Ambassador is an official representative of the community. That is why we want people who follow the rules, promote the rules, and don't work against the community.

An OpenStudy Ambassador is a messenger to new users and the outside world. They greet people by sending messages to new users and helping them learn how to use the site. They invite people through other social networking sites.

An OpenStudy Ambassador is a diplomat by trying to keep chat, questions, etc. more friendly through positive discussions.

If you become an OpenStudy Ambassador, you will go through a "month" of required training. This is just some light training and can easily be fit into a schedule. See, it is really 4 sessions that we spread over a month and allow 2 weeks for each reply so that even a busy student can find a couple hours in there to reply.

You also have some rewards as an Ambassador. First, we have a secret clubhouse that is not on OpenStudy. Second, your successful participation is tracked and can be used in a letter of reference or resume. This is also a form of volunteerism, which really looks good on college applications.

A few other things we want:

You must have at least 90 days studied on your profile. You must not have been suspended by a moderator for cause in the last 3 months. Suspensions past 3 months will be reviewed out to 6 months.

You must have a form of ID. A government ID that can be scanned or photographed is best. School IDs are also allowed. If you do not have these things, then an official document and a picture are acceptable. A birth certificate or a school document, like your report card or enrollment acceptance letter, is seen as official. This should help confirm age/grade and must be clearly readable in a photo or scan. Then a second picture of you holding the document is also required.

Part of why we like 90 days of studied is to show activity. There will be some time before we do all the reviews, so if you are close, go for it.

I'm not sure of the exact reason, but it's a formal application, and most applications have a field for addresses.

unfortantly i took the time off for the summer... so im only 1/3rd of the way there... if it wasnt for the summer i would have been at 90 days :( i wouldve been at 120

Ahaha hey. ^ I saw something about being IP banned and it made me remember that few times that my sister/brother/friend had to get some help on their work when I was gone and they made their own accounts over and over again. I got IP Banned for that :s Just letting you know ^_^

Haha but to actually make a statement relating to this question,

I couldn't become an Ambassador even if I wanted. My record is one of the most stained on OS, I spam on a daily basis, evade suspensions like a boss, and yall already know about the IP bans xD I'm friends with some moderators but others hate my guts. While I do actually help many users on OS, and I do enforce the rules on occasion, I'm generally a bad boi c;

What about those who live elsewhere in the world other than North American, how can they be an Ambassador? Those having different time zone than most users here make it harder for one or at least I expect it to make it harder for one to attend training and do their Ambassador duty.

Yes, sammixboo was community suspended because she told some spammers to stop and they decided to gang up and mass report her. It was a sad day. It does not cause her application issues because we know what the cause was.

\(\Large\textbf{Could I be one?}\)

If your suspensions/bans/etc. are recent, there is not much chance. We evaluate people based on criteria of how much it looks like a person can contribute to the site and program. That is part of why we look for more active users. But it is also why we are leery of recent abuses.

If you applied in the past but were not accepted, you can apply again. Many were passed over at one time or another for a poor track record or having been here only 30 days. That was months ago. If you have been doing good since the last application period, you should have been on long enough and done things well enough to be considered more favorably this time.

The training is designed to be done online. This keeps it open to the widest range of people.

We have Mods in the USA, India, and Europe that are over the ambassadors. In fact, there is just one in the USA at the moment.

you don't need to put your full address, they don't ask for it
they did not ask for street name and/or number
either way, only admins and certain mods get to see the application
they are all trustworthy people

i have never been suspended... however... when i first started openstudy to get my first wuastion overwith i accidentally did what i know now is known as a "medal party" by accident and the quastion was deleted.... i think by preetha >-<... and more recently i had a quastion deleted because i didnt know it was wrong to mass call people to a quastion for feedback on something but at least all the mods were fine with it... and once again i think it was preetha that shut that one down to O_o those are the only problems i have had... will this be counted against me?

We presently have Ambassadors from India, Morocco, UAE, and the USA.

The Ambi Management Team is in one of the Scandinavian countries, India, and the USA.

So yes, being an ambassador is open to all parts of the world.

The main reason we are looking for people who have been on and active for a while is simple. We want active people in the program. Having an ambassador team only helps if they are actually on the site to help people, greet new users, etc.

This does not mean OpenStudy needs to become your life. But we do want people that can participate a few ours each week, that want to help others use the site properly, and that are interested in learning and applying communications skills.
