explain why (4,1) is not a solution to the equation y = 3x + 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x,y) = (4,1) it means x=4 and y=1; but if you put x=4 in y=3x+1 .. you will get y=13.. but we have y = 1.. so it is not a solution
