find two real numbers whose sum is 24 and whose prosuct is a minimum

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

This has infinite answers. However, if you want the minimum of\[|product|,\]that would be \[\{0,24\}.\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Help me pls??

OpenStudy (mathmale):

"real numbers" implies that your solutions will not necessarily be integers. Represent the two numbers. Let the first be ' ? ' and the second be ' ? ' (you choose.)

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Once you've chosen letters to represent the two unknowns, how would you write the product of those unknowns? The sum?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank You :))

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Let the first number be ' ? ' and the second be ' ? ' (you choose: pick letters to represent each of the two numbers)

Ahh okey :) . Thank You #mathmale

Sounds as tho' you want to finish this on your own. That's fine. I'll be 'lurking' in the background should you have questions about this or other problems. Good luck!

@Meanne06 welcome to OpenStudy :) you can click the "Close" button and as the new question as a different question seperately ^_^

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

5x5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What ? @jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure ?? @liamschumm ..

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

It would be better if you would click the "Close" button on the question then ask a new one in the "Ask a question..." box so people won't be confused with what questions you still need help on

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

but yes, the maximum area given by the fence should best represent a square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okey :) (Y)

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

Meanne, there could be a really small negative number and a really big positive number whose sum is 24, and then the product would be negative, and therefore really small.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you :))

OpenStudy (liamschumm):

You are welcome!
