What is the author trying to convey in this sentence? These are imitations of the manners of the mob, and are degrading to a gentleman. A gentleman should not sleep in the same way as a country person. Imitating people does not appeal to a gentleman. Being loud, vulgar, and rude are likely characteristics of a gentleman. Bad manners and unruly behavior are below a gentleman's dignity.
