Algebra help? Question below.

\[\sum_{i=3}^{10} 2i-9\]

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

all you are being asked to do is add some terms after doing some substitution. starting with the substitution when i = 3 you get 2 x 3 - 9 = -3 i = 4 2 x 4 - 9 = -1 i = 5 2 x 5 - 9 = 1 just keep going, the last term is when i = 10 then just add all the answers together... this is called sigma notation, which means to add terms the bit on the bottom i = 3 tells you where to start, and the value on top, in this question its 10, tells you where it finishes...
