OpenStudy (anonymous):

a dilation maps (3,-5) to (27,-45). what are the coordinates of the image of (-4,10) under the same dilation? Please explain how to work this problem.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well if we dilate by a factor of n, then the point (a,b) maps to (an,bn)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since 3n = 27, or -5n = -45 what is the dilation factor n?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

9 and 9

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

because n = 9 each time, this means you're multiplying each coordinate by 9 to go from (3,-5) to (27,-45) you would apply that same rule to (-4,10)
