What is the relationship between atmospheric pressure and the density of gas particles in an area of increasing pressure?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe that the density increases as the pressure increases. So take that you have 100 particles in a box 10 cm^3, shrink the box down to 5 cm^3. so the density was 100 particles / 10 cm^3 and is now 100/5cm ^3

does that make sense?
