For single replacement reaction, how can you tell without using any kind of activity series, just using a periodic table, which metals are least active

from the top to bottom elements at the top are less reactive than elements farther down.

OpenStudy (jfraser):

the most active metals are usually on the bottom, and on the left side. The less active metals, like gold and platinum, are in the middle of the table.
