Translate to a mathematical expression. You can fill your tank of gas with 12 gallons of gas. On your last fill up you purchased x gallons of gas. How much gas was left in the tank before you filled up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anybody?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well if you only needed to purchase 'x' gallons of gas to fill up that would mean you had 12 - x gallons left in your tank Say you had 7 gallons of gas left...then you would need to purchase 12 - 7 = 5 gallons to fill up

So just simply 12-x is the answer?
