OpenStudy (cenaida):

Find the length of line segment XY A. 64.34 B. 8.02 C. 7.99 D. 5.55 http://roads.advancedacademics.com/contentserver/content/roadssection/279555/questions/assessments/r-reviewofthepythagoreantheoremquiz/geometry_8.1_quiz_final_18q2.png Is it C?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

I dont quite get C... We have a right triangle...with 2 sides known...and we want the hypotenuse...sounds like we can use the Pythagorean theorem.

OpenStudy (cenaida):

yes, so which answer could it be?

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

\[\large a^2 + b^2 = c^2\] we want c "the hypotenuse" so we have \[\large c = \sqrt{a^2 + b^2}\] or in your case \[\large c = \sqrt{6.5^2 + 4.7^2}\] \[\large c = ?\]

OpenStudy (cenaida):

A. 64.34 :) thanks!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Forgot the square root...

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

@cenaida

OpenStudy (cenaida):

your right thanks! :)
