What are the coordinates of the image produced by applying the composition Ro,-270 degrees o Ro,-90 degrees to the point (–5, 4)? A. (–5, 4) B. (–4, –5) C. (4, 5) D. (5, –4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the little 'o' in between 'degrees' and 'Ro' represents this stupid little circle thing that doesn't make sense.

OpenStudy (aum):

Rotate minus 270 degrees and then rotate minus 90 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so how would i find the coordinates of the new point? @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

Well I am not sure what the rotations are and hence my first question. Is that minus 270 degrees or just a dash? Is it rotated minus 90 degrees after minus 270 degrees rotation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yes, its rotated negative 270 degrees, then rotated negative 90 degrees @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

If it is minus 270 degrees rotation followed by a minus 90 degree rotation then it is a total of -360 degree rotation which is a full circle in the clockwise direction and you end up at the exact same point. Any rotations of integer multiples of 360 degrees, clockwise or anticlockwise will end up exactly in the same place.

oh ok thanks, that makes sense @aum

OpenStudy (aum):

you are welcome.
