Choose the missing step in the given solution to the inequality -2x - 14 > -4 + 3x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

-5x > 10 is the missing step. -2x - 14 > -4 + 3x --- subtract 3x from both sides -5x - 14 > -4 --- add 14 to both sides -5x > 10 -- divide by -5 and change the sign x < -2

Which of the following is not a way to represent the solution of the inequality 5(x + 2) greater than or greater to 7x + 2(x - 1)? A number line with a closed circle on 3 and shading to the right A number line with a closed circle on 3 and shading to the left 3 greater than or equal to x x less than or greater to 3

thank you so much btw for the help with the first :)

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

5(x + 2) >= 7x + 2(x - 1) --- distribute through the parenthesis 5x + 10 >= 7x + 2x - 2 -- combine like terms 5x + 10 >= 9x - 2 -- subtract 9x from both sides -4x + 10 >= -2 --- subtract 10 from both sides -4x >= -12 -- divide by -4 and change the sign x <= 3 or 3 >= x if there is an equal sign, it has a closed circle, and since x is less then, shading goes to the left 1st answer choice is incorrect

so I choose the first thanks :D @texaschic101
