What is an expository summary? An expository summary is a summary that states the most important ideas and details from a text (printed word)  Why write an expository summary? There are three reasons to write an expository summary: 1) to summarize the most important ideas from a reading 2) to remember what you read and 3) to share the information with others  What are the elements (parts) of an expository summary? There are three parts to an expository summary: 1) an introduction paragraph 2) body paragraph(s) and 3) a conclusion paragraph  How many sentences are in the introduction paragraph? There are at least two sentences in the introduction paragraph.  What information is in the two sentences of the introduction paragraph? One sentence includes the title, author, and text type (printed word). The second sentence includes the thesis statement that states (says) the plan (purpose) for the summary.  How many sentences are in a body paragraph? There should be at least three sentences in the body paragraph.  What information is in the body paragraph(s)? Each body paragraph starts with a topic sentence that supports the thesis statement AND includes sentences that give details to support the topic sentence(s).  How many sentences are in the conclusion paragraph?
