Help me understand this whole circle rolling around the outside of another circle/ inside of another circle 'x' times as big/small.?

I can see (inside the other circle) that a point on the penny would trace out a astroid ...but I'm just not getting the whole, how many times does the head turn thing.

And for the first part, off the bat I want to say that since the penny's have equal circumferences, it rotates just once...but that is wrong as far as what I'm reading
