the limit as x approaches does not exist because the left hand limit and the right hand limit do not go to the same place. As x approaches 3 from the right, it does exist, and it exists at 3. In order for limits to exist from both sides, both the sides have to end up at the same y value.

That's supposed to say that the limit as x approaches 3...I left out the 3. Sorry.
