What are some of the barriers to effective communication with witnesses? Name three.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Why should I answer you? (Thank about that as a hint.) What if they are uncomfortable for some reason? Can you think of a few reasons?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what u mean @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Is every witness a friend to the person doing questioning? What of they are a friend to the accused?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think they shouldnt be friends to the person cause you never know they are just choosing sides

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes, but can you see how that would make communicating with them harder? Things like pregudice and post hoc, ergo propter hoc (seeing what you expect to see) can make a person lie or misjudge things.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sometimes

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes. Ans what about their emotional state. What things there do you think could cause issues?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lying can put you behide bars and maybe you will use someone close to you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*lose

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes, all of which makes people say half truths, leave things out, etc. If they are worried about what might happen, scared of things, mad at you or someone else, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i need to know what are some of the barriers to effective communication with witnesses

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yes. Which what I am talking about. Your book/materials may have specific terms, but they relate to these things. A witness may lie to protect a frend, may be afraid of the police, etc. All of these things make them harder to communicate with. Those are barriers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay thank you for helping me
