An ant on the ground is 22 feet from the foot of a tree. She looks up at a bird at the top of the tree, and her line of sight makes 30 degrees with the ground. How far is she from the top of the tree?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well start by drawing the right triangle and show the information |dw:1411882743066:dw| you need to find x, using trigonometry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does x = 44 ?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

not quite... which ratio did you use..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was using 30-60-90 triangle theorem...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... if you use that |dw:1411883060090:dw| remember, the shortest side is opposite the smallest angle... so you can't use the sin ratio which says sin(30) = 1/2
