Can someone explain scientific notation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

scientific notation is a like a power to something like for example 10^5 but it short for 100,000 the number 5 means the many value of zeros

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so say you got 10 to the 7 power

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would it be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

10000000?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YES!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now heres another tip, If the power to something is a neagtive? You go backward which means it turn into a decimals!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

awesome so 8*10^6 for example would be 8,000,000 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

YEAH!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you got this bro

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
