Keeping it simple refers to well how simple the photograph looks from the eye of those who behold it. The picture should of course be beautiful, but also still keep a simple touch to it. So instead of shooting a scene that looks busy, try to focus on something simple like an apple sitting on a wheel or the sun setting.
