Do you know your order of operations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If so, just apply that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright. I presume 32(-5+1) is 32*(-5+1)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just want to make sure I'm understanding that little bit right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In any event, you recall PEMDAS- First, parenthesis. (-5+1)=(-4).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No exponents, so you move on to multiplication: 32(-4), or -128.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Then do -128/2, since division is next.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Add 7.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hm...but that doesn't seem to fit any of the three answers you put up.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That would come out to -57.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Are you sure there isn't any bit of the equation you're missing, on the next line? Possibly an answer you didn't show?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

7 + 32 (-5 + 1) รท 2 7 + 32 (-5 + 1)/2 7 + 16 (-4)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

gotta love the encoder ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

chk the question to make sure its posted correctly

OpenStudy (amistre64):

-(5+1) maybe?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Calculators suck at order of operations.
