how can i know if this one is function or not 2x-3y=4?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how does your material define a function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's why I'm asking

OpenStudy (loser66):

That is the equation of a line. And it is a function for sure.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u tell me how to work it please!

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your material doesnt define a function for you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I want to know how to work it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

f is a function if it maps an element in its domain to only 1 element in the range

OpenStudy (amistre64):

generally, we think of x as the domain values, and y as the range values

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2x - 3y = 4 , solve for y y = 2x/3 - 4/3

OpenStudy (amistre64):

now, for any x we use, there is only one y that results

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess that's equal -2/3! is that' right then after that i have to solve it to see if it's function!!?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

\[y=\frac23x-\frac43\] since there is only 1 range element (y) for a given domain element (x) this is a function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much

OpenStudy (amistre64):

your welcome, its good to know how your material defines a function in order to work it according to your course tho.
