how do I identify the min/max value of f(x)=-x^2-4x? I found x=2 and y=-4

OpenStudy (zale101):

x=2 and y=-4 was that the vertex you found?

OpenStudy (zale101):

all you have to look is at the negative sign at the front of the equation, if it existed than it's a sad face parabola. If it didn't then it's a happy faced parabola|dw:1411966234760:dw|.
