what is a ratio please help medals for best answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a ratio is a relationship between two numbers of the same kind , expressed as "a to b" or a:b, sometimes expressed arithmetically as a dimensionless quotient of the two that explicitly indicates how many times the first number contains the second.

A ratio can be written in many different ways. Ratios compare values and it is kind of like a fraction so a ratio of 8:4 if you multiply by the same number lets say 3 8(3) and 4(3) it is 24:12 which is the same thing. It is just a way to compare values. Like apples to oranges
