Please help explain, I will give medals line PB has endpoints at -2 and 12. What is the coordinate of its midpoint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well you definitely need to use the Midpoint formula, but you don't give the full coordinate points. Are these points lying on the x axis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No just -2 and 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well then assuming the y coordinates are = to 0, then you enter the ordered pairs into the midpoint formula, the ordered pairs being (-2,0) and (12,0).\[M=[(x _{1}+x _{2})/2, (y _{1}+y _{2})/2]\] if you enter those values into the equation it will look like this:\[M=[(-2+0)/2, (12+0)/2]\] which turns out to be \[[M=[-2/2, 12/2]\] and so the ordered pair of the midpoint is\[M=(-1,6)\] This is assuming of course that these points are on the x axis. Hope I helped.

Thank you
